Background and job purpose 

ALQST for Human Rights is an award-winning independent NGO that works to defend and promote human rights in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. We conduct on-the-ground research, engage in international advocacy, and campaign on behalf of victims of human rights abuses.
As an advocacy intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting our work, whilst also gaining valuable experience of working in a professional environment for a human rights NGO. References will be provided. 

Tasks (may vary depending on applicant’s skills and interests)

  • Taking part in our advocacy work at the UK, EU and UN level, including drafting briefing sheets, participating in meetings and contacting stakeholders 
  • Helping to organise events 
  • Contributing to campaign and communications materials
  • Administrative tasks 


  • Understanding of and commitment to human rights issues 
  • Interest in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region 
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills
  • Being aware of security and confidentiality issues and appropriate precautions and safeguards
  • Interpersonal skills and values
  • Familiarity with working on policy, whether at the UK/ EU/ UN level, or elsewhere, is desirable 
  • Being able to speak and read Arabic is desirable
