Background and job purpose
ALQST for Human Rights is an award-winning independent NGO that works to defend and promote human rights in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. We conduct on-the-ground research, engage in international advocacy, and campaign on behalf of victims of human rights abuses.
As an intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting our work, whilst also gaining valuable experience of working in a professional environment for a human rights NGO. References will be provided.
Tasks (may vary depending on applicant’s skills and interests)
- Monitoring and documenting human rights developments
- Providing background research
- Taking part in our advocacy work at the UK, EU and UN level, including drafting briefing sheets, participating in meetings and contacting stakeholders
- Contributing to campaign and communications materials, including drafting tweets, press releases and op-eds
- Helping to organise events
- Administrative tasks
Skills
- Experience and knowledge of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf
- Understanding of and commitment to human rights issues
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills
- Being able to speak and read Arabic is desirable
- Being aware of security and confidentiality issues and appropriate precautions and safeguards
- Interpersonal skills and values
